With so many cultural offerings and tantalising treats on offer this Yuletide period, Leeds is the place to visit. Whether you feel like gliding round the German markets, indulging in a Christmas Carol or two, or partying the merry night away to some old school dance classics, Leeds has got your covered for all your festive frolicking needs!

German Christmas delights

If indulging in some German gingerbread sounds right up your street, then why not check out Leeds Christkindelmarkt? Set to make a return on Friday 11 November in the magnificent Millennium Square, there will be wooden chalet stalls aplenty; all lined up with handcrafted toys and gifts, festive decorations and traditional BratWurst and Gluhwein to keep you contently cosy as you make your way through the marketplace. The perfect start to your Christmas Calendar.

Festive cultural offerings

The 2nd of December marks the magical arrival of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang to the West Yorkshire Playhouse. A wonderfully festive treat for the whole family to feast their eyes and ears upon a touch of exuberance and classic songs, such as Toot Sweet, Hushabye Mountain and Truly Scrumptious.

For those of a more classical disposition, head on over the Leeds Grand Theatre and watch in admiration as the Northern Ballet delight the senses with the advent of The Nutcracker. Leaping onto the stage from the 16th December to the 2nd January 2017, this ballet will sweep all away in its bewitching story.

Swing by The Inkwell Christmas Jazz Café on Sunday 18th Dec for The Jazz Voices Choir and the Jazz Workshop band, as they carry out their sweet-sounding Christmas performances. Not only that, but they will be hosting a jam session. The perfect opportunity to grab your guitar and get on down to some festive tunes!

Christmas hymns

If you’re hankering for some hymns, then head on over to St George’s Church for an evening of classic Christmas Carols. This service will cater for both contemporary and traditional tastes and be sure to really get you in tune with your festive self.

Comedy & entertainment

To get into the most joyous of Christmas spirits, why not let Jongleurs tickle your fancy with their Christmas Comedy Club? Take along your colleagues for an out of office treat, or get some laughs in with the family. Choose from the Gold or Platinum package; each one with top comedic offerings, an exclusive after-party and a fabulously festive meal to entertain, you’ll be sure to leave with an aching belly, one that you won’t be blaming solely on the food…

For a chance to take it back to the good old days, dust off those sparkly shoes and make your way to the  Cosmopolitan Hotel’s ‘Throwback Thursday’s Christmas Party Night!’ Taking place every Thursday night in December, the sounds of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s will transport you back to a time where Cheese was really cherished and give you an opportunity to let your hair down before you tackle that Turkey!
