At Roomzzz we are passionate about giving back to society. Our charitable organisation – the Parklane Foundation – is the channel through which we help the most vulnerable people in the communities we are part of, through online donations, donations made in our hotels and employee payroll giving. We also donate room nights at our hotels and sponsor charitable events. You can read more here but let’s give you a brief rundown of the regular charity initiatives we get involved in.

Roomzzz Charity Week

Roomzzz Aparthotels marked its first-ever Charity Week from Monday 31st July to Sunday 6th August 2023. The week-long event showcased remarkable enthusiasm and dedication as each of our Roomzzz Aparthotel teams came together to organise a series of impactful initiatives, fundraisers, and activities.

Our teams displayed unparalleled creativity, unwavering teamwork, and genuine compassion, leaving an indelible mark on the Roomzzz family. The pinnacle of the week Saturday 5th August’s entire night of revenue generously donated to the Parklane Foundation. Alongside the efforts from our hotels, a sum totalling an impressive £38,240 will be disbursed to the Parklane Foundation. The Parklane Foundation is supporting three outstanding charities this year; Dementia UK, Alzheimer’s Society, and Leeds Hospitals Charity, each playing an instrumental role in making a positive impact on countless lives.

Charities of the Year

Every year The Parklane Foundation selects a charity to receive all our fundraising donations. In 2023 this has been increased to three amazing charities Dementia UK, Alzheimer’s Society and Leeds Hospitals Charity – in which they will be supporting throughout the year!

In 2024 the Parklane Foundation are centring their focus on the critical issue of homelessness. Building upon last years approach, they have extended their support to three charities again this year, encompassing both a nationwide organisation and two local initiatives based in Leeds – Simon on the Streets, St George’s Crypt and Crisis.

Crisis

These trusts are organisational units within the NHS and have thousands of staff members. At the peak of the COVID-19 restrictions Roomzzz offered 2,500 complimentary room nights to the NHS Trust to show our support.

This was to acknowledge our appreciation for their hard work and to make isolation from their families a little easier, while also ensuring they were fully rested between shifts.

Simon on the Streets

Operating across Leeds, Bradford, and Huddersfield. Their outreach services directly engage with individuals on the streets, ensuring vital support reaches those who might not seek assistance elsewhere.

Their tireless efforts span throughout the day and into the night, reaching out to the most vulnerable during the darkest hours.

St Georges Crypt

Standing as a beacon of support for the homeless, vulnerable, and those battling addiction. Their comprehensive services include providing three daily meals, showers, counselling, and a nurturing community atmosphere.

With a legacy dating back to the 1930s, they’ve made monumental strides, including the construction of self-contained flats for individuals combating addiction, embodying their unwavering commitment to aiding those in need and helping them reintegrate back into society.

NHS Trust

These trusts are organisational units within the NHS and have thousands of staff members. At the peak of the COVID-19 restrictions Roomzzz offered 2,500 complimentary room nights to the NHS Trust to show our support.

This was to acknowledge our appreciation for their hard work and to make isolation from their families a little easier, while also ensuring they were fully rested between shifts.

Candlelighters

This is a charity helping families with children who are facing cancer. Founded in 1976, Candlelighters brings light to families by providing them with emotional, practical and financial support, while also bringing hope to them when all seems lost. They are also investing in vital research to improve the outcomes and lives of children with cancer.

With many families travelling all across Yorkshire for treatments, and often with nowhere to stay overnight, Roomzzz has allocated 100 complimentary room nights so parents and families of these children can be close and rested while they undergo treatment, saving on stress and costs at such a difficult time.

Social and Environmental Responsibilities

In addition to our charity projects, at Roomzzz we are passionately committed to our responsibility to be a sustainable, fair and totally inclusive business, so we do more than the existing ESG laws and regulations ask of us.

Continually improving the environmental performance of Roomzzz is at the heart of our business strategy. We are reducing our environmental impact by promoting a Reduce, Reuse and Recycle policy. This involves reducing waste, using more sustainable materials and withdrawing the need for single-use plastics.

In December 2020 we introduced wooden room keycards at all our locations, to replace plastic ones. These cards are FSC-approved and work exactly the same as the plastic cards, but are more sustainable. In March 2021, we also enlisted Biffa as a commercial partner to provide a more carbon-neutral waste manage solution. This has introduced a more professional and pro-active approach to waste and recycling and helped us to enforce our Reduce, Reuse and Recycle initiative.

Also, at our two newest developments in London Stratford and York, we have installed electric vehicle charging points for customers. This will continue at all future developments and helps promote emission-free motoring, reduces the use of fossil fuels and offers the customers cheaper fuel costs too.
