New Year's eve in our cities Categories City guides Seasonal events Length 3 min read Author Roomzzz 12 Dec '19 Share Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share via email You’ve booked your Roomzzz aparthotel, picked out the perfect outfit and you’re ready to party, but where do you start? We’ve picked some of our favourite activities in the seven UK cities we’re based in to help you make it the best New Year’s Eve yet.Get your mermaid on in ChesterCute, quirky Chester is a great place to simply hang out and take in the atmosphere, but you need more on New Year’s Eve than a pub crawl. It’s a night for all-out glamour and what’s more glamorous than a vintage-themed ball complete with circus acts and an after party? Vintage Magic and Mayhem at St Mary’s on the Hill promises 12 performances from circus acts to burlesque, all dressed up in a black tie meets underwater theme. You’ll be seated cabaret style to watch the performances and the party continues long after midnight with music and dancing until the early hours. So, channel your inner mermaid and get ready to party like it’s 1929. Seven parties in one in LeedsWant to do something a bit different for NYE but not be tied to one venue? Escapism – a mini festival-meets-bar crawl – could be the perfect choice. Seven venues across the city’s trendy Merrion Street and Call Lane have come together to create an epic bar crawl, covering some of the city’s coolest cocktail bars and cosiest dive bars. All you need is an event wristband (pick it up from any of the venues after 5pm) for free entry to Mean Eyed Cat, Verve, Call Lane Social, Tiki Hideaway, Cuckoo, Brooklyn and The Maven from 5pm ‘til 4am. You get a free glass of bubbly, plus a complimentary pizza at Cuckoo or Mean Eyed Cat to set you up for the night. And if there’s a gang of you, you can reserve a booth or table at the bar of your choice.Immerse yourself in history in LondonThere are so many things to do in London on New Years’ Eve, you’re spoilt for choice. But for a picture-perfect experience in one of the most iconic buildings in the city, how about a night at the museum? The Natural History Museum. This year, NYE sees the museum transformed into a party venue for Creatures of the Night, complete with silent disco, UV body paint, mask-making, musical bingo and live DJs. You can tour the exhibits with a glass of something, or just dance the night away under the museum’s world-famous blue whale skeleton. At £99 a ticket, it’s not the cheapest option, but just think of the Insta stories…Power through to 2020 in ManchesterIf a top night out means singing along at the top of your voice to power ballad belters, then Manchester’s Ultimate Power NYE could be for you. Part of a series of regular club nights, Ultimate Power is dedicated to the music of artistes like Bon Jovi, Journey, Whitney Houston and Aerosmith, and while there’s plenty of dancing, this place is all about the singalongs. Held at the O2 Ritz, the fun starts at 10.30pm with the biggest ballads played loud long into 2020. It’s less than a tenner to get in, which means you can spend more on your outfit. So slip on the spandex, back comb your hair and shout-sing in the new year, ‘80s style.Be a Dancing Queen in NewcastleContinuing the singalong theme, Newcastle’s Abba vs. Queen New Year’s party at the iconic Riverside is sure to be a night to remember. Whether you’re a Freddie or a Bjorn, this full night of ‘70s and ‘80s classics from two monsters of pop has been selling out venues all over the country, so you’d best get in quick to secure your ticket. While most of the music is ABBA and Queen, there will be music from artists from the same eras, like Fleetwood Mac and Elton John, so the fancy-dress options are endless. Dancing starts at 10pm and runs through ‘til 3am.Have a happy brew year in NottinghamIf you love your ale, Brew Year’s Eve at Nottingham’s Brewhouse and Kitchen could be just the ticket. The Brewhouse is playing host to live music and DJs, all accompanied by great beers, to see in 2020 in style. The entry price gets you canapes and a pint or a glass or bubbly, and there’s the option to book in for a three-course meal if you want to make a real night of it. Entry is free if you’re dining, or £7.50pp if you’re not. Beers are brewed on site, with a whole host of styles to choose from, so grab a table and settle in to find your favourite.Ring in the New Year in YorkWith more trendy bars and cosy pubs than you can shake a stick at, York is the perfect place for a NYE bar crawl and there’s something really magical about wandering the narrow cobbled streets on the last night of the year. With a pub around every corner, you don’t have to stay out in the cold for long and if you plan your route well, you can join in the highlight of a York NYE – ringing in the new year to the sound of the iconic Minster bells. Time your pub crawl so you end up at the historic Guy Fawkes Inn, with it’s moody gas lamps and cosy wood interiors, just in time for last orders, then make your way over to the Minster to join tourists and locals alike for a good-natured new year love in.Of course, if mixing with the masses on the busiest night out of the year isn’t for you, why not hole up in your Roomzzz apartment with a bottle of fizz (or two) and see in the New Year in style.Book your NYE escape at Roomzzz Aparthotels here
