A Mini Guide To Chester’s Race Season

Chester Race season is nearly here. With some of the rooms at Roomzzz Chester looking out onto the racecourse, it’s only natural that we get a little bit excited around this time of year. Chester Racecourse is said to be the oldest racing venue in England with races being held here since 1539. Little has changed since then; the “Roodee” racecourse is a tight course and races are exclusively on the flat so expect an exciting schedule of races when you visit. If you’re coming to Roomzzz Chester for the races or thinking about a visit to the city when race day is on, here’s a mini guide to Chester’s race season and some of the events that are happening…

Boodles May Festival

Wednesday 9th May and Friday 11th May

Get involved in the 2018 season opener at Chester Racecourse. Wednesday 9^th May sees City Day celebrate 100 years of the Chester Vase. Ladies Day on the Thursday is a chance to dress glam and catch an afternoon of exciting racing on the Roodee, and Friday is Chester Cup Day which rounds up an exciting Boodles May Festival. You could even choose to stay in the Ascot Suite at Roomzzz Chester to enjoy a mini city break too and get a great view of the racecourse at the same time.

Summer Saturday

Saturday 16^th June

Spend a Saturday in the sun watching 7 thrilling races on the Roodee. Whether you’re watching from the Winning Post Enclosure, The Country Concourse, or the Dee Stand, Summer Saturday guarantees a good day out for all.

Summer Festival

Saturday 30^th June

Start summer right with a day at the Summer Festival. There are 7 races throughout the afternoon so pick your horse and place your bets. Win or lose, the Summer Festival at Chester Races is always a good day out with friends.

Ladies and Gents Evening

Friday 13^th July

Is there a better way to kick off the weekend? Get dressed up for a great evening of horse racing and enjoy a date night you won’t forget. You could even treat yourself to a hospitality package where you can enjoy dinner on the night too. Head to the White Horse for casual pub food, book at The Turf for an intimate dining experience, or go to 1539 Restaurant and Bar for British food created from locally sourced produce.

Family Funday

Sunday 5^th August

Family Funday is the best excuse to get everyone together, enjoy the school holidays, and maybe even have a flutter on the races – adults only of course! Children under 17 can attend free of charge and there’s plenty of free entertainment throughout the day. You can even bring a picnic to enjoy on the Open Course or try some of the food on offer on race day!

Season Finale

Saturday 29^th September

It’s the last chance to catch any racing at Chester before the season comes to a close. Get your friends together for one last race day and enjoy an electric atmosphere as the horses cross the line for the last time in 2018 on the Roodee.
