The best non-shopping activities at Cheshire Oaks Categories Length 3 min read Author Roomzzz 15 Aug '16 Share Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share via email For those among us who like to shop while not having to worry about paying over the odds for parking in Chester’s city centre, there is an alternative just five miles up the road. Just off Junction 10 of the M53, Cheshire Oaks has been a prime retail destination in Cheshire and neighbouring counties for just over two decades. The McArthur Glen retail outlet is seen as the main attraction in Cheshire Oaks, but is there more to this complex than shopping? As it happens, there is! We take a look at the things you can do that don’t involve lugging several bags around. A frame or two of bowling At the Coliseum Leisure Park just over the road from McArthur Glen, Tenpin is a modern bowling alley with lanes going into double figures and more fun to be had besides knocking some pins down. You can order unlimited bowling if you’re desperate to hit a strike or two, while there’s Sector 7 Laser if you want to unleash your inner sniper! If you want bowling with a difference, Tenpin offer something called ‘cosmic bowling’. This is where, when you play, you can bowl in the dark! If this interests you, it’s best to wear your brightest, most colourful outfit. Catch the latest blockbuster Just to the right of Tenpin, you’ll find the Vue Cheshire Oaks Cinema. Here, you can expect to catch all of the latest blockbusters from Hollywood and beyond, as well as a few less well-known releases. This cinema has its own IMAX screens and, for those who want the ultimate cinematic experience, VIP seats for just a couple of quid extra on the price of your ticket. Work up a sweat If you’ve spent your time in Chester gorging on sumptuous steaks and burgers grilled to perfection, there’s a David Lloyd Gym where you can get rid of those calories. Following a recent refurbishment, the Cheshire Oaks branch has tennis and badminton courts, an indoor swimming pool and gym space where you can receive training or exercise at your own pace. Should you plan on staying in Chester for at least a fortnight, this gym has a 14-day membership offer. Be sure to take advantage soon if you don’t want to commit to membership, although you can use it at any David Lloyd gym in the UK. Steak a claim Cheshire Oaks has a few places where you can order a nice steak, but two that stand out are upmarket chain Miller & Carter and Coal. The former has a more adult feel, while the latter is more family-friendly, although they have a cocktail bar open till late. If steak’s not your thing, then Ed’s Diner at the McArthur Glen shopping area is worth a look. This 50’s-style American diner has shakes, classic burgers, hot dogs and even a full breakfast to start your day off in style. Planning a stay in our Chester Hotel?
