We’re going to throw it out there – we think Leeds is one of the best cities in the UK for veggies and vegans! The city is packed with tonnes of awesome meat and dairy free eats, so if you’re visiting the city and looking for the best places to eat, then look no further – our list of the best veggie and vegan eateries in Leeds has you covered.

BundoBust

Bundobust is a firm favourite with veggies and vegans in Leeds, and meat eaters love it too! On Mill Hill, just by Leeds train station, Bundobust is one of the most popular restaurants in the city, so don’t be surprised if you have to wait for a table on a weekend!

Bundobust serves loads of delicious vegan and vegetarian Indian street food dishes, including okra fries, paneer masala, tarka dhal, vada pav and bundo chaat. Order a few dishes between you and your friends (we’d recommend 4-6 dishes per 2 people) and enjoy all Bundobust has to offer. They serve plenty of vegan beers too, alongside a number of craft ales, wines and soft drinks. For all your veggie and vegan Indian cravings, Bundobust is the place to be.

Address: Bundobust, 6 Mill Hill, Leeds, LS1 5DQ

Roots and Fruits

A 100% vegan café (with vegetarian options if you’re not yet on board with cashew nut cheese!) Roots and Fruits is one of Leeds’s first and longest running veggie/vegan cafes. Located in Leeds’s historic Grand Arcade, try and grab yourself a window seat so you can get the best views of the Arcade and all its cute shops and boutiques. Sit back, enjoy some delicious vegan food and watch the world go by!

The cafe serves nutritious, filling vegan food and delicious sweet treats, with weekly specials to enjoy too. We’d recommend their rainbow salad with rice noodles for a healthy lunch or the vegan tofu breakfast for the perfect weekend hangover cure.

Address: Roots and Fruits, 10-11 Grand Arcade, Leeds, LS1 6PG

Out of this World

Out of this World is first and foremost a health shop, that sells a range of organic, ethical and vegan food, but they also have a pretty impressive deli takeaway menu that’s perfect for veggie and vegan food on the go. Here’s a great idea – why not buy yourself some tasty treats from the deli to eat in your Roomzzz apartment later on?

Their popular deli counter serves freshly made salads and sandwiches every day, alongside a huge selection of breads, cakes and treats for you to take away. The food they serve is 90% vegan, but there’s still a few options if you’re vegetarian and eat dairy. Plus, most of their products are free from gluten, wheat, yeast and even sugar – perfect if you have any intolerances or are on a health kick!

Address: Out of this World, 20 New Market Street, Leeds, LS1 6DG.

Humpit

If you’re a fan of all things hummus and want a hearty vegan meal in the city, then Humpit is the place for you. The eatery is pretty famous in Leeds, and for good reason too! Their menu is small – but don’t let that put you off. You can either order a filled pitta bread, hummus or salad bowl, or shakshuka, a warming dish made from tomatoes, aubergine and fava beans.

All of these mains come with a choice of toppings, so decide between extra hummus, falafel, mushrooms, onions, chickpeas or salsa (or why not treat yourself and get all of them!) Plus, Humpit is located in Leeds Corn Exchange, so why not walk off the meal by exploring all the independent shops?

Address: Humpit, Corn Exchange, Call Lane, Leeds, LS1 7BR.

Cantina

Leeds’s first all-vegan restaurant, Cantina is a must-visit for veggies and vegans. Serving tasty dishes and cuisines from all over the world, the menu is ever changing so there’s always something new for you to try. It’s pretty casual, so there’s no need to book in advance – just turn up and enjoy!

Cantina serves a mixture of junk food and healthier options, with standout dishes including the vegan ‘Piggy Azalea’ hotdog, ‘Moodonna’ burger and the ‘Fin Diesel’ smoked salmon bagel. They also have a top-notch range of sweet treats for dessert too, such as vegan brownies, cakes and milkshakes. So, do not under any circumstances, leave without trying some of the sweet stuff!

Address: The Old Red Bus Station, 104 Vicar Lane, Leeds, LS2 7NL.

Rola Wala

You’ve probably heard of Rola Wala, but if you haven’t, it’s a popular street food chain that serves Indian street food in a tasty naan bread wrap. It’s a permanent fixture in Leeds’s Trinity Kitchen, a street food hub in the bustling Trinity shopping centre.

You build your own wrap and choose entirely what goes into your meal at Rola Wala, so it’s easy as (meat free) pie to go veggie or vegan. Toppings suitable include sweet potato saagwala, kerelean chickpea and lentil dahl, and if you’re really into your superfoods then you can add your toppings to a cauliflower rice, kale or grain salad bowl instead. Yum!

Address: Rola Wala, Trinity Kitchen, Albion Street, Leeds, LS1 5AY.

Temple Coffee and Donuts

If you’re fancying a little sugary-sweet pick me up, then Temple Coffee and Donuts is the perfect spot for you. It’s in Kirkstall, so it is a bit of a walk, or a bus ride, away from the city centre, but we guarantee it’s worth it for all the delicious donuts on offer! Where else can you find vegan donuts as big as your head, in an array of tasty flavours and bright colours but Temple?

The selection of freshly baked donuts are 100% vegan, and although flavours vary from day to day you can rely on some classic flavours always being available, including sugared cinnamon, birthday cake and lemon sugar. Come hungry though – as these donuts are huge (don’t say you haven’t been warned)! Plus, they have dairy-free milk options available for coffees and teas.

Address: Temple Coffee and Donuts, 3 Burley Place, Kirkstall, Leeds, LS4 2AR.

Knaves Kitchen

Loaded cheese fries, dirty burgers and buffalo bites – it’s all here at Knaves Kitchen, and it’s all vegan! Located in Oporto, a popular bar on Leeds’s super popular Call Lane, Knaves Kitchen serves 100% vegan junk food, seven days a week.

Knaves Kitchen use seitan (a wheat protein) to substitute chicken, and their CFC wrap is truly mind blowing. Cornflake battered ‘chicken’ goujons, coleslaw and chive ranch dressing in a toasted wrap, the CFC is one of Knaves Kitchen’s most popular dishes. They have weekly specials too, so don’t miss out!

Address: Oporto, 31 Call Lane, Leeds, LS1 7BT
