Whether you’re looking for a cure for the morning after the night before, or simply need some energy before an all-day shopping trip, Leeds has got plenty of excellent brunch and breakfast spots. From the good old fashioned greasy spoon, serving up a traditional English to up-market cocktail bars that can rustle up a mean eggs benedict, there’s something to suit all tastes.

The Riveresque Café – 15 Bridge End, LS1 7HG

Conveniently located just a two minute walk from Roomzzz in Leeds, Riveresque sits pretty on the bridge at the edge of the River Aire. Whilst their standard full English is more than enough for most, if you’re feeling especially peckish you can go large for a few extra pounds. Their menu is also blessed with a selection of tasty ciabatta’s and other delights, including Thai Prawns and a range of fresh salads.

Restaurant Bar and Grill – The Old Post Office, LS1 2AN

This popular and lively bar and brasserie housed in the Old Post Office overlooks City Square opposite Leeds Train Station and manages to be both up-market and unpretentious. Their small, yet perfectly formed brunch menu is available on weekends from 9am and includes scrambled eggs and smoked salmon on toast, as well as one of the best full English breakfasts you’ll find in the north. Leeds Restaurant Bar and Grill also offer a choice selection of continental options, such as croissants and granola.

Just Grand! Vintage Tearoom

If you’re feeling somewhat nostalgic, then take a trip up the Just Grand! Vintage Tearoom in the Grand Arcade. Quintessentially British and housed in Victorian surroundings, you can expect traditional porridge oats topped with honey, toasted crumpets and cheese and ham toasties. Of course, their afternoon tea is an absolute delight and is often full on weekends, so make sure you book for larger parties.

The Alchemist – Level 1, Trinity Shopping Centre, LS1 6HW

One of Leeds best cocktail bars is now one of the city’s best places to go for brunch. The Alchemist allows you to enjoy great views of Boar Lane, with a balcony high up on Level 1 of the Trinity Shopping Centre. Their eggs benedict and full English are to die for, and if you can’t be tempted by their tea or coffee, they have a brunch cocktail menu should you require a hair of the dog remedy.

Yum Yum Deli – Brewery Wharf, LS10 1N

Tucked away in Brewery Wharf, just near the Oracle cocktail bar, Yum Yum Deli has been serving locals (and visitors lucky enough to stumble upon it) cracking breakfasts for the best part of a decade. Their fine food is only matched by their friendly service, and they are one of only a handful of delis in Leeds to win a prestigious Oliver Award for the sheer quality of their food.

Laynes Espresso – Sheaf Street, LS10 1HD

As the name suggests, Laynes Espresso specialise in the best freshly ground coffee you could hope to find outside Italy, and their location near to Leeds Train Station has made them something of a refuge for weary travellers looking for a pick me up. Their diverse menu offers up an imaginative twist on breakfast and includes black pudding with baked potato, creamed leeks, parmesan and duck eggs as well as baked egg, pistachio and Merguez sausage on sourdough toast.

Gaucho – Park Row, LS1 5JF

If you’re into the finer things in life, then look no further than Leeds premier Argentinian steakhouse, Gaucho. Their recently launched Electro Brunch cost £45 pp, but that allows you to order unlimited food and drink between 11am-3pm every Saturday. Sip their fine Domaine Chandon sparkling wine and feast on oven baked chorizo sausage, steak and eggs, or smoked salmon as you soak up the chilled out, melodic electro beats. Check their site for more details – booking is essential!

The Greedy Pig – North Street, LS2 7PN

The now buzzing Northern Quarter is known for its mixture of cool and swanky bars, however The Greedy Pig has fast grown a reputation for its mouthwatering breakfast offering. Their top-drawer full English is just a mere fiver but tastes like a million bucks – especially when nursing a rather nasty, Leeds induced hangover.
