What’s the next most important thing, second to having an amazing time in the Toon? Capturing the ultimate Instagram snap of your staycation, of course! Otherwise how are your followers going to know that you’ve stayed at Roomzzz Newcastle City?

Here are the number-one places in Newcastle to keep your grid on point:

The Angel of the North

If you’re travelling to Newcastle by car, the chances are you’ll pass the iconic Angel of the North sculpture on your way. She stands on a hilltop right next to the A1. This awe-inspiring, 20 meter tall angel will make for an incredibly dramatic photo in silhouette, at either sunrise or sunset.

Believed to be the biggest angel sculpture in the world, the rust red, steel structure has become a symbol of Newcastle Gateshead since it was installed in 1998. Designed by the celebrated British sculptor, Antony Gormley OBE, the angel caused controversy when its design was originally revealed but over the years it’s won everyone over with its uplifting presence.

Lola Jeans

Lola Jeans isn’t just the best place for cocktails in the city, this restaurant and bar doubles up as one of the most beautiful backdrops for a portrait (or selfie if you’re that way inclined!) too. It’s a vintage enthusiast’s haven – everything inside has been salvaged or sourced from charity shops.

Think soft hues, exposed brick, huge scale wall murals and herringbone wooden flooring. And if you want to get really creative with your shots, there’s a grandfather clock and a few wrought iron street lamps to get involved.

The Quayside

If you don’t get a picture of the Quayside, have you even been to Newcastle? The Tyne Bridge is an obvious choice for your perfect landscape picture. Completed in 1928, it was the largest single-span bridge in the UK at the time and now it’s on every tourist’s check list as one of the city’s major landmarks.
Down at the Quayside you can also capture cityscapes a plenty, the Millenium Bridge (affectionately known as the blinking eye bridge), The Baltic and The Sage. There’s so many must-sees to be found here.

Pink Lane Coffee

Want to capture that candid coffee shop shot? Pink Lane Coffee has got you covered. The interior is white-washed and deliciously industrial. All of the elements for a sensational Instagram moment are there. We love the star-like clusters of light bulbs, the plant wall painting and the neon signs.

You can’t beat that recognisable sign made from copper piping (obvs) though…take a snap in front of that and everyone will know that you’ve been to the hippest coffee joint around. Oh, and did we mention that they also serve up a mean cup of speciality coffee from their own roastery?

Central Arcade

Hidden away off Grey Street, this Edwardian shopping arcade is too cute to be true. Take your outfit photo to the next level with a trip to this historical location. The impressive barrel vaulted, glass roof makes for the most perfect lighting situation.

Strike a pose amongst the wooden shop fronts, with the elaborately tiled interior as your backdrop. And then sit back as the likes come pouring in. The mosaic floor would also work for a shoefie. You can thank us later for this one.

Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens

It’s worth straying from the city centre for this one – trust us! This heritage site has all of the beauty just waiting to be captured. Our top spots are the pillar hall with Greek-inspired architecture and columns. The quarry garden that looks almost Jurassic, it’s full of interesting exotic plants. And the medieval castle.

Time your visit right and you could snap the amazing rhododendron garden in full bloom, the oodles of snowdrops that grow near the castle or the cheery daffodil display that pops up once a year in front of the hall.

The spectacular snowdrop displays at Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens are signalling the coming of spring this week. We can’t get enough of these beautiful little flowers. #Belsayhall #englishheritage #northumberland #heritage #snowdrops #springiscoming #signsofspring

Grainger Town

The sweeping streets of Grainger Town, with grand sandstone buildings standing proud, look stunning by night and day. Whether you’re a photography pro or an enthusiastic Instagram newbie, it’s almost impossible to take a bad photo of Newcastle’s historical centre.

The Grecian-inspired, Victorian architecture in this area of town has been labelled ‘Tyneside Classical’ by the locals. Grey’s monument, the Theatre Royal and Grainger Market are all waiting to be papped by you.

Stack

This shipping container village is guaranteed to make your grid look cool. Stack is a new addition to Newcastle city centre and is well worth checking out. There are independent shops to peruse around the outside, including a craft beer shop, an ethical clothing brand and a plant shop.

Inside the village you can eat, drink and chill by the fire pit. Every three months Stack switch up their pop up bar. So far there’s been an Insta-friendly enchanted garden and a too-cool-to-be-true ice bar. Camera at the ready!

Goldsmiths Newcastle

There’s nothing like a trip to the jewellers to make you reach into your bag for your…camera (you thought we were going to say wallet, didn’t you?). The Goldsmiths building is one of the most photographed buildings in Newcastle and it’s easy to see why.

This listed building with its detailed stone façade, illuminated Rolex sign and 24ct gold clock will stand out to your followers as they scroll their feed. Fun fact: the clock, complete with ‘Venus’ and cheeky cherub faces is nicknamed the kissing clock because of the amount of proposals that have happened here.

The Great British Cupcakery

Last but certainly not least, is the high queen of all Instagrammable spots in Newcastle, the Great British Cupcakery. There’s probably not a single local who hasn’t had their picture taken in this luxurious boutique bakehouse.

Expect pastel perfection with flower walls filled with pink and white roses, neon signs, marble table tops and the prettiest cakes and freakshakes you’ve ever seen. And there’s a pink blossom tree by the counter – you can’t pass up an Insta opportunity like that!
