Throughout Manchester’s fast-changing city centre, you can’t move for all the fashion shops selling the latest looks, as well as more vintage items. From the big chains to those small, one-of-a-kind independent shops, fashionistas are spoilt for choice when shopping in Manchester.

While some people believe that you can’t put a price on looking good, reality often sets in when you see some of the price tags for that dress you’ve been eyeing up! To help you avoid disappointment, we’ve picked a few places to bag a bargain outfit in Manchester.

Vintage Fashion Market – third Saturday of every month on Tib Street

In the heart of the hipster-friendly Northern Quarter, this market is one of the best places to come across fashion from yesteryear. From 1920’s-style flappers through to mid-90’s ‘baggy’, you’re sure to find something that will catch the eye and take you back in time.

Be sure to check every single stall, as there may be that outfit you’ve been looking for but have been unable to find for ages. Also, you need to be quick off the mark, as there’ll be plenty of other bargain-hunters to compete with!

Cow – 61 Church Street, M4 1PD

Speaking of vintage clothing, you’re almost guaranteed to find something cheap and retro at Cow. Having recently relocated to the Northern Quarter, they’ve got vintage and modern fashion for both men and women, including leather handbags and loads of items for under £20.

Here, you also get the luxury of being able to try things on before you buy, something that’s not worth risking at a market! You can even buy a jumpsuit or playsuit if they’re your kind of thing.

Each To Their Own – Unit 7, Barton Arcade, Deansgate M3 2BB

Situated in the elegant Barton Arcade, this boutique is full to the brim with dresses, suits, tops, shoes and bags designed by a plethora of independent designers receiving their first big break. Some of the designs are conventional, whereas others have some alternative chic going on.

What sets Each To Their Own apart from other boutiques in Manchester is its range of jewellery. Necklaces, pendants and earrings, all designed by Alex Christopher, can top off any dark, mysterious look you want to create.

Planet – House of Fraser, Deansgate, Manchester M60 3AU

Packed with clothes that will help you dress to impress at work and on a night out, Planet is one of the more affordable fashion retailers in the city centre. Right now, many of their items are reduced, while their most expensive clothes rarely venture north of £100.

As a concession within the House of Fraser department store on Deansgate, it is a little difficult to find at first. However, once you’re there, you can shop without fear of maxing out your credit card,
