With the dark nights drawing in and winter restricting your options when it comes to evening activities, we take a look at the music scene around three of the UK’s major northern cities. From arena sell-outs to local smaller venues, we’ve got your evenings sorted.
Although the new First Direct Arena is now officially open for business, the musical acts don’t get into full swing until November. However there are still plenty of smaller venues in the city. Head to the O2 Academy website for an array of artists, DJs and nights out available. Having received widespread acclaim for their debut album Bad Blood, Bastille are heading to Leeds’ O2 Academy on the 21st October as they blast out crowd favourites Pompeii and Laura Palmer. Concerts from Suede, Travis and the Goo Goo Dolls are highlights for the rest of the month, so make sure you check online for tickets to make sure you don’t miss out.
The Arctic Monkeys head to Newcastle’s Metro Arena as our top pick of concerts for October. The Sheffield rockers roll into Newcastle for a performance on the 22nd October. Tickets for the event sold out immediately upon release, with UK concert dates proving to be like gold dust, however if you can find a ticket at an official resale retailer online, it’s a no-brainer to go and see the Yorkshire four piece on this leg of their world tour. Another big name hitting the Geordie music scene this month is Jessie J, whose performance on the 26th is a rescheduling of her cancelled gig from March this year.
Big name stars Billy Joel and Peter Gabriel hit Manchester later this month, providing ample entertainment for fans of 70’s and 80’s music. World famous pianist Billy Joel’s stop in Manchester is one of only three English dates, so tickets are sure to be in high demand, but are currently still available. Having embarked on a solo career after leaving rockers Genesis prior to his 1977 debut solo album, Peter Gabriel has enjoyed a long and successful career. Be sure to catch him in Manchester before he ends his tour and takes a sabbatical from the music industry.
Be sure to plan your concert night in advance, and if you’re looking to stay in the city rather than begin the drive home late at night, visit Roomzzz to check for vacancies.
